Out from the Storm

I love it here in the highlands, but you have to take the rough with the smooth. We’ve now had 5 big storms in the 7 months that we’ve been here.  Today saw 165mph winds on top of Cairn Gorm. Here down at sea level in Appin it was a blowing at a ‘mild’ 80mph.

Even when it’s blowing a hoolie here it still looks strangely beautiful.

We lost power at around 9:30 this morning. Last time that happened in May it was 4 days before the electricity company managed to put the lines back up, so we were surprised when the power came back on at lunchtime… …only to lose it again 45min later.

…and so with night fall arriving at 4pm at this time of year we lit the camp cooker in the kitchen for our evening meal, followed by chestnuts ‘roasted on an open fire’, all washed down with 2 bottles of ‘Lagunilla’ 2006 Reserve (Rioja).  …not a bad end to quite an eventful day.
